Two days ago,we talked about the newsthat the FBI had done
a request (accepted by the Department of Justice) to postpone the trial
opposing them to Apple in the context of unlocking the iPhone 5c of the
San Bernardino terrorist and killer Syed Farook.
A third party allegedly contacted the FBI to communicate a
method to unlock the offending iPhonesans
help from Apple. And according to the Yedioth Ahronoth journal, this mysterious entity
which contacted the FBI is the Israeli company
Cellebrite.
Cellebrite offerssystems analysis tools
mobilesallowing in particular to extract data. These tools are
well known to investigation services and regularly used by
these.
We also learn via the American site MacRumors that theFBI
Reportedly Signed $15,000 Contract With Cellebriteto unlock
Syed Farook's iPhone 5c.
If the trial is upheld because the FBI failed in its attempt to crack
the iPhone 5c incriminated, Apple will ask to know the unsuccessful method which
was used by Cellebrite, but if it is abandoned, Apple will not be able to do anything
get from the FBI.
As a reminder, the government agency that is the FBI wants to force the firm to
Cupertino to create software to unlock the killer's iPhone 5c,
but also other iPhones, which Apple had refused, leading to a lawsuit
the opponent of the government.
