Apple imagines an iPhone and Apple Watch that sniff blood sugar levels

Two years ago, we heard for the first timeof a secret Apple projectwhich was initiated by Steve Jobs before his death. This would allow diabetics to measure their blood sugar or the concentration of glucose in the blood using a new type of sensor in the Apple Watch.

Apple is still on this health project, according to a new patent granted to the firm and which was published on the website of the American patent office. Apple is considering asmell sensorwhich could allowmeasure blood sugar level.

This patent describes how it would be possible to add an odor sensor to an iPhone or Apple Watch. This sensor could have several uses related to the user's health.

A first case that this sensor couldsniff the surrounding air to detect a possible dangerous gasbefore it is too late for the user. We think, for example, of carbon monoxide which is odorless and can be fatal in the event of prolonged exposure.

In another more interesting case it is mentioned how this sensor couldsniff sweatof the user, in order tomeasure sugar levelin the blood.

This would be a non-invasive method that could allow diabetics to measure their blood sugar levels, without having to prick themselves with a needle or other measuring tool.

As is usually the case with Apple patents, there is no guarantee that this one will turn into a new feature in a future product. However, it gives an idea of the technologies Apple is studying to improve the lives of its users.
