The alternative to YouTube for Vision Pro is improving (while waiting for the official app)

Apple's Vision Pro headset already has a catalog of more than 1,000 applications specially designed for this new device. On the other hand, users can install over a million iOS and iPadOS apps that have been ported to visionOS. However, some very important apps are missing. And among these, there is YouTube. Currently, the only official way to access the platform on Vision Pro is to open its web version on Safari.

To fill the void left by YouTube, a developer, Christian Selig, created an app calledJunowhich works as a client for viewing YouTube videos on Vision Pro. And after making headlines in the press, thanks to this application, this developer is already announcing a series of improvements, via Juno update 1.1.

In a blog post, the developer of Juno announces the addition of features such as the ability to choose the video resolution, volume control on the app, or even drag and drop (it becomes possible to drag and drop a YouTube video to Juno). Subtitles are also coming to Juno. In addition to this, the developer announces a reduction in loading time, an improvement in the interface, and bug fixes.

As you will have understood, these are minor updates, but which bring the Juno experience closer to that which one would have on an official YouTube app. Indeed, it seems that the developer rushed a bit to make the Juno app available from launch day.

“After coding like crazy all week to submit it and then driving 10 hours to New Hampshire from Canada, sitting down and reading all the comments in my hotel room made me really happy and even more excited to continue developing the app for this new platform”, says Christian Selig.

In other words, Juno should therefore continue to improve. However, it should be noted that Google has finally decided to develop a YouTube app for the Vision Pro headset. We just don't know when this app will be available.

“We're excited to see the launch of Vision Pro and we're supporting it by ensuring YouTube users have a great experience in Safari. We have no specific plans to share at this time, but can confirm that a Vision Pro app is on our roadmap”, recentlydeclareda Google representative.
