Apple has just released a big update for the AirPods firmware. Almost all models of the brand are affected, both the 2nd and 3rd generation AirPods as well as the Pro models and theAirPods Max(the headphones). In reality, these are two slightly different updates that were released by Apple today.
The apple brand offersThe 6F8 versionfor the 2nd generation AirPods Pro, while the 2nd and 3rd generation AirPods, as well as the first AirPods Pro and the AirPods Max are entitled tola version 6A326firmware. Despite their different names, these two updates bring more or less the same features to users.
For people who have 2 generation AirPods Pro, and who are therefore affected by the 6F8 update, the latter should not bring much change. On its website, Apple explains that the update simplyfix bugs and make minor improvements. So there should be no audible difference to the user.
As for update 6A326, it's a different start. Apple actually specifies on its website that it is also a question here of a“bug fixes and other improvements”. If the Apple brand does not provide more details about this update, some users have reported on forums that the Bluetooth connectivity is of better quality. Here again, this modification being very slight, it will be difficult to perceive for the user.
How do we know if our AirPods are up to date?
AirPods don't have a screen or “settings” like iPhones, so it's harder to know if they've been updated or not. Normally, these firmware changes are automatic, without users having to do anything.
To find out if your AirPods have the latest software version, simply go to the settings of your iPhone. You must then go to the Bluetooth section then click on the little “i” to the right of your AirPods. Scrolling down to the bottom of the information page, the firmware version name will be displayed.
It should correspond to 6F8 or 6A326 depending on which AirPods you have. If not, leave the AirPods connected to the iPhone without using them for a few minutes, they should update without you having to do anything.
