Apple is already overshadowing Facebook's “metaverse”

In the latest edition of its weekly predictions (in the form of a newsletter:Power On), Mark Gurman once again discusses the case of Apple's future VR headset. For the journalist, the device should see the light of day in 2022, although a precise date does not seem to be known at the moment. According to the latest rumors, the accessory only seemed to be at the simple prototype stage.

Obviously, Apple has not communicated about this product and probably will not do so before it is official. By compiling all the clues that have reached us, we can nevertheless count on the following characteristics:

• a very high price (from two to more than three thousand euros)
• a processor “advance“
• functionalities linked to “avatar[s]” which are obviously not unlikethe latest announcements from Facebook with its “metaverse“
• a multitude of sensors
• one or more integrated screens

We also expect that the beast will only be compatible with the Apple ecosystem, where we already find iPad tablets, computers running macOS and of course iPhones.

Gaming

What raises the most questions is probably the software aspects of this headset. Will it be a simple way to access three-dimensional worlds as Meta's Oculus range already offers? Should we wait for a merger with a very similar project, this time focused on augmented reality, namelyles Apple Glass? For Gurman, it is thus a question of MR* but also of video games. Indeed, Cupertino now assumes its role as a serious competitor against Sony, Amazon, Microsoft and Nintendo in this area.

Thanks to the Continuity of different Apple equipment, we can easily imagine how group calls via FaceTime could take place in VR. Recently,we also reported the takeover of the company Spaces by Apple, specialized in this type of technology for the office.

The catalog of Arcade titles, integrated into Apple One packages or available alone for 4.99 euros per month, could rise a level with the arrival of titles in 360 degrees or superimposed on the environment close to the user.
