Some iPhone 15 will not be made in China but in India

Apple has been working for several years to reduce its dependence on China. While geopolitical relations between Uncle Sam and the Middle Kingdom are only getting worse, Apple does not want to find itself trapped between the two giants of our world, without any production solution if an embargo were to be imposed. implemented in the coming years.

In order to find alternative solutions, the Apple brand is investing heavily in factories in other neighboring countries. Vietnam, but also India, are becoming privileged partners for Apple. Small clarification which is important, the Cupertino company does not really have factories in its name, they are subcontractors who move their factories from China to India or Vietnam at the request of Tim Cook and his teams .

The iPhone 15, the only model concerned?

According to the latest report from Bloomberg journalist on the subject, Mark Gurman, Apple has invested so much in Indian factories that the latter could take care of part of the production of the iPhone 15. For now, Apple has never before entrusted the manufacturing of a latest generation iPhone to its factories outside China.

The Apple brand would therefore have chosen to move part of the manufacturing of the four new phones out of China. If Gurman does not specify in his report which models are affected by this original change, the more complex and premium “Pro” and “Pro Max” versions should logically not be affected.

India, a beginner partner

In detail Gurman explains that local subcontractor Jabil could be chosen for the manufacture of the iPhone 15. The company already works for Apple on several products, including AirPods cases. Production of iPhone 15 from India, however, seems a risky bet for Apple.

The Apple brand would be concerned about the reliability and quality levels of these factories. During quality tests carried out internally, theFinancial Timesreveals that one in two iPhone chassis wasn't good enough to move on to assembly. Leaving China also means for Apple losing a qualified workforce, accustomed to these tasks and capable of producing large quantities without a false note.
