Apple Music exceeds 60 million paying subscribers

Last January, Apple announced a figure of 50 million paying subscribers to its music streaming service, Apple Music. 5 months later, the head of Apple Music, Eddy Cue, announced yesterday that Apple Music has exceeded the figure of60 million paying subscribers.

This figure is valid for the whole world, and makes Apple Music the second music streaming service in the world, behind the leader, Spotify. The latter is still well in the lead with a figure of more than 100 million paying subscribers.

However, Spotify has been in place for much longer than its competitors, and in particular Apple Music, but Apple's service is growing much more quickly, thanks to its base of iOS users.

Unsurprisingly, Apple Music is the leading music streaming service on the iOS platform, however regarding the number of Android users, Eddy Cue prefers not to reveal the figures.

This suggests that Apple Music is still relatively far behind Spotify on Android.

Eddy Cue also discusses some new iOS 13 features specific to Apple Music. For example, a new karaoke mode that synchronizes song lyrics in real time.

Finally, he welcomes the new Apple Music application on MacOS Catalina, which is a much better option than going through iTunes, the latter disappearing with the next version of macOS.
