Apple Plans gets THE feature it was missing

• Apple Maps now offers reviews for locations in France
• It is possible to recommend or advise against a place, but not to write a comment
• Users can also add photos

This is big news, which many have been waiting for for a long time now. The Apple Plans application finally allows you togive your opinion on a place in Francewithout leaving the platform and from your own iCloud ID. To do this, however, there are only two ways for the moment, which consist on the one hand of leaving a semblance of “like” (positive opinion, therefore) with the icon of a thumbs up and on the other hand to communicate his disappointment with, on the contrary, a thumbs down.

To go further, Apple Plans now also offersadd photosto a sign. This will allow other users to discover the places from the perspective of a local or a traveler. Until now, images were rather taken from the competition, via the Tripadvisor site or even via Foursquare. Now, we will also be able to discover the menu, and perhaps even compare prices from one year to the next to better understand inflation in this or that city. A credit is requested, but is not obligatory: you can also post photos anonymously. Please also note that via Siri and geolocation, Cupertino can send you requests to share your photos, as also doesGoogle Mapswith its Local Guides.

Not enough?

The new rating system proposed by Apple for Plans is certainly very practical and welcome. However, this poses serious limitations. For example, it is stillimpossible to leave reviews everywhere: if France is eligible, this is neither the case for Romania nor Kenya – to name only these cases.

Moreover, contrary to what Google allows to do with its Maps alternative, here Internet users cannotdo not write a comment: it is simply possible to like or disapprove a place with the icons seen above. Alphabet even offers participants a score ranging from 1 to 5, and displays the average of all the scores on an establishment's profile. With the Plans update, this is not the case, however Apple displays the number of notes and offers a total as a percentage.

Another disadvantage: with Apple Maps, if it is easy to give your opinion on a bakery or a florist, you cannot, for example, do so with a barracks or with certain institutional addresses such as taxes, with gas stations or with places of worship. Finally, nothing is yet indicated regarding the moderation or verification of all these reviews. We must therefore keep our fingers crossed so that mass purchases of said content do not increase in the future.

Tutorial: Note a location on Apple Maps

Note: you must be logged in with an Apple ID to be able to give your opinion on a place with the Maps app.

From an iPhone

1. open the Apple Maps app
2. tap a location in a compatible country (for example: France)
3. touchNote(or scroll down to the location first)
4. press thumbs up to approve a location, or thumbs down to recommend against it

From a Mac computer
