Qualcomm, one of Apple's major suppliers
for the iPhone and iPad and in particular their processor chip, is in court with
the apple firmSince
several months already. The mobile chip specialist was notably
accused by the Cupertino company ofpractices
anti-competitive. She was then prosecuted for having wanted
put pressure by different means on its subcontractor in order to force it to
lower your pricesof royalists requested for use
of its processors. Consequence of all this, according to latest information
published by theWall Street Journal, it could well be
that Apple can for future iOS deviceshappenof the
Qualcomm components, turning toIntel and
MediaTek:
Intel already supplies processors for the iPhone 7, 8 and X, alongside
Qualcomm. The latter was Apple's exclusive subcontractor for processors
previous iPhone models.
However, according to Wall Street Journal sources, Apple is considering no longer
use Qualcomm chips in the future, in upcoming iPhone models and
of iPad. This would obviously be the direct consequence ofsetbacks
judicialthat the two companies are currently experiencing, setbacks
which cost both money for the Cupertino company, and time.
However, the change would not come without pain, given that
Qualcomm has long been a major supplier to Apple for iOS devices. Se
move from this historic subcontractor to switch to a mixture of chips coming from
of Intel and Mediatek would require time to adapt with the mobilization
significant financial and human resources.
However, the solution remainsplausible, especially since
continuing to work with Qualcomm, Apple could risk doing
drag out the various trials over the long term, which would remain a good
thorn in the side of the Californian giant.
