Apple prepares developers for the arrival of privacy labels

They will be one of the great noveltiesd’iOS 14. They will allow users to know what personal data a third-party application will collect from them if it is downloaded. The idea is to allow the user to realize the authorizations he gives to applications and thus bring them into agreement withhis view of private life.

Present in the form of a small pictogram, these labels should summarize in a few lines that an application uses location, camera or microphone. It will therefore be possible to eliminate these uses.

Privacy labels for this fall

In order to prepare developers for the arrival of this new feature, Apple has just communicated on this subject. The apple brand explains that this label will be similar to what may already exist for nutritional information on food products in supermarkets.

Later this year, the App Store will help users understand an app's privacy practices before downloading the app on an Apple platform. On each app's product page, users can learn about some of the types of data the app may collect and whether that data is linked to them or used to track them. »

5 main categories to help you find your way around

Apple then asked the developers of each application to put this little label ontheir App Store page from the space dedicated to them. This label will be divided into 5 main categories. The first, the most classic, will concern basic personal data, telephone number, address, last name, first name, etc.

A second part of the data, which will be represented by a heart, will concern information about our health. Health information, collected by an Apple Watch or directly by the iPhone. Third part of the label, financial data, it summarizes which application has access to the user's banking information. Finally, the last two parts are dedicated to location, and so-called “sensitive” information, political opinion, skin color, ethnic origin, etc.

All this information will therefore be available in the new version of iOS 14 which should appear this fall, certainly at the beginning of October.
