Apple will soon produce iPhone SE 2020 in India

For years, Apple has produced almost all of its iPhones in China. However, the apple brand is turning more and more towards India, where it wishes to increase manufacturing. This is obviously not a decision taken lightly by the manufacturer, who sees in this decision a significant financial interest.

By producing the iPhone SE 2020 in India, Apple could avoid having to put its hand in its pocket to comply with a 20% import tax. In this way, the company could hope to increase its sales in the territory.

In India, the smartphone is sold for the equivalent of $560, a higher price in the United States where the phone is sold for $399. If the firm avoids the 20% tax, it could sell the iPhone SE 2020 cheaper in the country. Until the year 2019, old iPhone SEs were already manufactured in India.

On site, Wistron should be responsible for the production of the iPhone SE 2020. The subcontractor has already collaborated with the American company on several models, including the group's former entry-level smartphone.

Apple vise l’Inde

More generally, Apple would aim to transfer around a fifth of current Chinese production to India. This would represent no less than $40 billion and would make the American company India's largest exporter. This positioning follows the Indian government's desire to encourage foreign companies to manufacture their products locally.

In addition to the financial aspect, Apple would also aim to move part of its production to Indiain order to reduce its dependence on China. In addition to Wistron, the manufacturer will also work with Foxconn.
