Apple delays its employees' return to the office by a month

Last June, Apple management announced to its employees that they would have toreturn to the office at least three days a weekfrom September. The Cupertino company then praised the merits of this on-site reunion: “lVideo conferencing has reduced the distance between us, that's for sure, but there are some things it just can't replicate.»

Employees threaten to quit

Concretely, employees will come to the office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and they will be able to work remotely on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Delta variant of covid-19 is nevertheless changing the company's plans and while the epidemic resumes in the United States, the apple brand has decided to postpone its project until October to allow itself more time.

This decision comes in a rather turbulent context within the company because employees have launched a petition to ask management to allow them to work remotely permanently. Some opponents of the return to on-site work explain in particular that this forces them to stay close to headquarters where the cost of housing is very high.

A letter circulating since this week therefore offers managers two arrangements that would give employees the possibility of working remotely for at least a year. The text considers that it is also too early to return to the office in this epidemic context.

As reportedMacRumors, Apple employees communicate daily on a Slack channel with 6,000 members. Some are very unhappy and ten of them even said that they would resign if the Cupertino company forced them to return to work on site.

However, management has never really had remote working in its heart. Like Tim Cook himselfwho declaredin September 2020: “Honestly, it's not like being together physically. And so I can't wait until everyone can come back to the office.»
