Apple Silicon: the M5 chip is taking shape despite a change of direction

While the chipM4 just broke performance records, Apple is already preparing for the future. The Cupertino company would have in fact placed an order with TSMC for itsfuture M5 chips. We also learn that Cupertino would have given up on2 nm engraving process, yet more advanced, forcost reasons.

This decision, however, should not affect the performance gains expected for the M5 series. Apple is banking ona new 3D architecture, called SoIC (System on Integrated Chip), to compensate. This approach stacks components vertically, which improves thermal management and reduces electrical leakage.

Gradual deployment from 2025

If the schedule is respected, the M5 should debut in late 2025 in the iPad Pro. The MacBook Pros would follow suit, as well as an update to the Apple Vision Pro.

This new chip promises significant gains in power and energy efficiency. Something to delight professionals and demanding users, always looking for performance.

Beyond consumer devices, the M5 could also equip Apple's AI servers. The firm has invested massively in this area and is already deploying M2 Ultra chips to equip its servers dedicated to Apple Intelligence.

While it was announced thatthe M4 would join the M2 UltraTo support Apple Intelligence servers, the M5 could also be a good option. Theretechnologie SoICon which the chip is designed would be particularly suited to these intensive uses. It offers better heat dissipation and increased efficiency, key assets for AI.

OLED and the M5, the winning duo of MacBook 2026?

In addition to raw power, MacBooks could also benefit fromnotable improvement in their display in 2026. Several analysts are counting on the adoption of OLED panels, already present on iPhone and soon on iPad Pro.

Technology that delivers deep blacks and vibrant colors like on your iPhone. Coupled with the power of the M5, it would significantly improve the visual experience of the MacBook Pro, which is a little behind in the field.
