Apple Silicon: what fate for Boot Camp and Windows emulation?

The Worldwide Developer Conference which took place last Monday was an opportunity for Apple to unveil -as its name suggests-all its new features for application creators, the complete summary of which can be read at this address. Among them, two major announcements: the launch of the latest version of macOS, Big Sur, but alsol’gradual abandonment of Intel processorsfor the benefit of in-house chips on a model similar to that of iPhones and iPads.

Their architecture will be based on technologyARM, but the public of the event which continues with private sessions this week is already asking itself a very fair question: will it be possible to launch Microsoft's competing operating system from such a platform?

Very unclear answer

If Apple has absolutely not communicated on the subject, although a demo of the Office suite was presented during the keynote, you have to look at Redmond's statements to find out more. And the firm is unequivocal: nothing is planned forBoot CampFor now.

Despite everything, it is very likely that the company will take the plunge and is already discussing suchupdateinternally: in fact, many publishers work on Mac but continue to produce content for PC. For the moment, however, Windows 10 for ARM is only available to manufacturers, and not to the general public who may have to wait a few weeks before being able to benefit from it. As a reminder, macOS 11 will be released by the fall in its stable version.
