Apple is not expected to make any major announcements this year during the presentation of iOS 17. In the latest edition of his newsletter, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman explains in particular that Apple must confront European laws whose entry into force is imminent. In addition to the universal charging port which should change the face of the iPhone 15, Apple is working on other regulations, notably on the App Store.
Apple knows that within a few years competition will be open in this market and developers are already working on the possibility of accessing third-party application stores within their very closed ecosystem. Such a change has already been implemented in South Korea, where the law has evolved very quickly, and this change is expected to become permanent within a few months.
Apple is working in particular on “sideloading” this practice allows you to download applications directly from another device. If, for example, you have software on your computer (which is compatible with an iPhone) then you can transfer it from one device to another.
iPad and Apple Watch: the real winners?
In addition to the iPhone, Apple is working on the development of the iPad and in particular its “Pro” version. The tablet should also have the right to a new OS and according to Gurman this should “lay the foundations” of numerous technologies for OLED screens, which recently arrived on Apple tablets.
Finally, the most important update of this year should keep WatchOS. Connected watches have been an area conquered by Apple for years, but Apple does not intend to rest on its laurels. Gurman mentions the arrival of a “major update” without giving more details for the moment.
