Apple reportedly working on a 5G iPad Pro supporting millimeter waves

We already know via various reports from reliable sources like Bloomberg or analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, that several new iPhones which will be released in 2020 should be compatible with 5G.

We now learn via a new publication in the DigiTimes newspaper that the Apple firm would be working on an iPad Pro equipped with 5G, and supporting millimeter waves, the version of 5G offering the highest speed.

As a reminder, the next iPhones should support frequency bands below 6 GHz (low bandwidth, but greater range), as well as millimeter waves (high bandwidth, low range), offering greater connection speed and better bandwidth. , in towns and urban environments.

In France, 5G will mainly use frequency bands below 6 GHz, at least initially. The arrival of the fastest 5G (millimeter waves) will come later.

According to DigiTimes sources, a Taiwanese subcontractor would supply Apple with the 5G antenna system for the iPad (as well as the iPhone). Given the production cost associated with such an addition, it is almost certain that this concerns a future iPad Pro, and not an entry-level or mid-range iPad.

The Taiwanese publication does not specify a date or quarter for the release of such an iPad, however it is likely that it will not be revealed before 2021. The first iPhones equipped with 5G should be released in September 2020. Before that, Apple could unveil new iPad Pros in March 2020, notably equipped with a triple photo sensor and a 3D sensor
