Apple will relaunch 3D Touch with iOS 17?

3 D Touch was launched by Apple in 2014 initially on the Apple Watch. The functionality will quickly arrive on the iPhone. Understanding the differences in pressure on certain parts of the screen, this technology should make it easier to use the phone and in particular launch specific actions more quickly.

Despite the promises of such an option on paper, the 3 D Touch will ultimately be abandoned by Apple in 2019, due to a lack of feedback from the general public. Over the past four years, more and more Apple customers have askedthe return of 3 D Touch, leading the Cupertino company to reconsider the question.

In one of the iOS 17 betas available at the moment, the functionality seems to be back. If the name “3D Touch” is not directly mentioned by the Apple brand, a new option“reacting to differences in pressure exerted on the screen”should see the light of day.

A new functionality, very close to the old one

In the phone settings, a new menu on “haptic feedback” has appeared on the phone. The latter allows you to customize the response speed of the screen. The user has the choice between fast, medium or slow. This setting, available in the “Accessibility” submenu.

According to Apple, this new functionality should make it possible to display “previews” of content or even “contextual menus”. The difference with what we experienced with 3D Touch is fine but those nostalgic for that era will not be able to find exactly the same sensations.

Apple should present iOS 17 to the general public in September a few days after the announcement of the iPhone 15. The Apple brand has already revealed a large part of the new features of this updateduring his last WWDC, its annual conference for developers.
