- Apple released a statement addressing developers
- It states that all iPhone and iPad applications could be available as soon as the headset is released
- The firm also communicated regarding its release date
This is a major announcement from the Cupertino company. In a press release published Tuesday on its developer site, Apple tells us that a wholenew App Store will soon be launched. And this, on the occasion of the release of its future mixed reality headset: the Vision Pro.
We also learn in this press release that there will be nono delay between the release of the Vision Pro and the availability of iPhone and iPad applications on the latter. Everything should be available from day one. Surprising news when we know the difficulty in adapting certain applications to different devices. But Apple seems to have found how to overcome this problem.
New beta approaching
While a third beta version of the operating system specially designed for Vision Pro has just been released, the Apple firm announces a date for the next upgrade.
Indeed, the fourth version of the beta should be released this fall. For the occasion, all applications available on the App Store should be directly integrated into the next visionOS beta, by default. Apple still tells developers that certain applications may require modifications.
The strategy seems good. Instead of having unpleasant surprises when integrating applications later, the work is done up front. The majority of applications should be tested to ensure the best possible user experience once the headset is available.
As a reminder, developers can already work on adapting their applications for the Cupertino-based company's mixed reality headset. The lucky ones have already received the headset, thanks to the developer kit. Others can still work on visionOS directly from their Mac, provided they are part of Apple's developer program.
A release date?
In its press release, the Cupertino-based company specifies to developers:“Customers will be able to use your apps on visionOS early next year when Apple Vision Pro becomes available.”
We hope to learn more during theKeynote, September 12.
