Apple Vision Pro vs Google Glass: a big difference has just been highlighted

Apple has just launched its headsetVision Pro. And for the moment, everything suggests that this launch is successful. This is an achievement for Apple, since other tech giants have already tried to popularize this type of product, in vain. Among these, there is Google which, in 2013, launched its Google Glass augmented reality glasses. However, since the product never really took off, Google eventually abandoned it.

And a big difference between Google Glass and Vision Pro (which explains Apple's success and Google's failure) has perhaps just been highlighted in an article published this week by the site 9to5Mac. This reminds us that at its launch, theGoogle Glassreceived a lot of criticism. On the other hand, wearing these glasses was not very well seen by other people at the time.

“The biggest obstacle Google has to overcome is the negative reaction from the press and the general public. There are bars/restaurants which preventively ban Glass or its notion”, wrote the site 9to5Google, in 2013. The site Wired, for its part, wrote that it was socially embarrassing. And the fact that Google sold them by invitation didn't help matters.

With Vision Pro, this type of product becomes normal or even “cool”

For its part, the Vision Pro helmet is well received. And according to the explanations of analyst Neil Cybart, it seems that we are already used to seeing people wearing this headset (which is however more imposing than Google Glass).

“Apple Vision Pro has been available for nine days and we're already seeing the social stigma against in-face computers starting to dissipate”, explains Cybart, in a publication on X. And this would be due to the fact that as soon as it arrived on the market, the Vision Pro was worn by celebrities.

For example, YouTuber Casey Neistat has already tested the Vision Pro on the streets of New York.

And the headset has already received some form of validation from T-Pain and Diplo.

In other words, these videos are redefining societal norms. And since it was Apple who managed to make this type of product normal, this one should benefit from it. According to some forecasts, the Cupertino company could sell more than 600,000 Vision Pro headsets this year, then 1 million in 2025. And if the very high price of this headset remains an obstacle, rumors already suggest that a more affordable version would be in the pipes.
