The Apple Watch and diabetes: specific bracelets in development?

Last month, sources
from the CNBC newspaper claimed that Apple would be working in secret on a project
initiated by Steve Jobs, wherea new
type of sensor in Apple Watch
would allow diabetics to measure
their blood sugar or blood glucose concentration.

There is something new regarding this functionality. According to a new report from
American site BGR, this new technology for measuring blood sugar
could beintegrated into bracelets
interchangeable
.

These smart bracelets would add functionality to
the Apple Watch without increasing the price of the latter and adapted to the needs
users.

To develop this new technology for
diabetics, Apple would have recruited200 specialists with a PHD
over the past year.

In terms of the method used to measure blood sugar, it had been
mentioned a sensor whichwould project light through the
skin
, a less invasive method than traditional solutions
requiring prick of the skin with a needle.

Still, Apple will have to carry out numerous clinical tests to validate
the precision and reliability of this sensor which could make the lives of
diabetics or on the contrary, put it in danger in the event of
dysfunction.

Apple is not the only company working on connected objects
used to measure blood sugar levels. Google works of its
side on contact lenses which would make measurements in
continu.

This is also not the first time we have heard of
smart bracelets for the Apple Watch, the Cupertino company has already obtained
several patents describing ways to add functionality to the Apple
Watch through bracelets, including this examplethe bracelet
reloading
.
