After the Apple Watch, doctors praise the performance of the Vision Pro

The Apple Vision Pro enabled an operating room to performreplacement of a glenohumeral joint. This connects the scapula to the humerus at the shoulder. It was not the surgeon who put on the frame himself, but one of his assistants, using visionOS. This, in particular in order to manage the inventory of tools dedicated to the maneuver.

This is far from the first time that an Apple device has been praised by healthcare professionals for its performance. Remember: just at the beginning of the year, a fourteen-year-oldhad been saved by his smart connected watch. As a reminder, the latter makes it possible to identify cardiac arrhythmias or too low an oxygen level in the blood. The Ultra model also doubles as a dive computer.

Apple Vision Pro: a high-end technical sheet

The Apple Vision Pro is a mixed reality headset equipped withtwo 4K screens; one facing each eye of the user. The latter will be able to count on no less than two processors to support its activities. Proprietary in design, the first is the R1 and is dedicated to augmented reality apps. The second, also homemade, is the M2 which is also found on certain iPad Pro models (the most recent).

This direct competitor to the Meta Quest Pro offers a choice offrom 256 GB to 1 TBof internal storage – with a 512 GB option in between. A main camera offers a three-dimensional stereoscopic system, with a sensor size of eighteen millimeters and an aperture f / 2.00 according to the official technical sheet.

Many other sensors are included on the Apple Vision Pro, including two high-resolution lenses, six motion tracking sensorson the front and four other internal lenses dedicated to eye tracking. A time-of-flight radar is also included; This is a LiDAR similar to that found on the back of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. A TrueDepth camera is also integrated into the device, again like on Apple mobiles.

On the sound side, speakers are also installed on the branches in order to provide aAudio spatial which is reminiscent of that of the second generation AirPods Pro. Directional beamforming is also possible thanks to no less than six different microphones, and we find AAC or MP3 among the formats supported for music playback.

visionOS at work, what does it look like?

Doctors are clearly not the only ones to benefit from an Apple Vision Pro in a professional setting.

We know that many apps adapted to the visionOS interface are also interested in workers, such asJigSpacewhich allows, for example, teachers to create 3D models to present to their students for educational purposes. With this, vinyl-loving musicians who can't afford the expensive Technics MK2 will be able to afford Algoriddim's Djay app, and entrepreneurs with busy schedules will likely appreciate Box for online storage or Fantastical to manage their online calendar.

visionOS, the operating system for the Apple Vision Pro, will get a second major version during the Worldwide Developer Conference – if its publisher does not change its habits in this area. We expect, for the occasion, that the developer will reveal a first compatibility of the platform with a possible third generation Apple Pencil.

visionOS 2 will most likely be available in beta directly following WWDC. But we will certainly have to wait until September to discover the final version.

The Apple Vision Pro costs3 499 dollarsin the United States. Its release date and price are not yet known, as far as the French market is concerned.

  • A patient underwent surgery with the help of Apple Vision Pro
  • It was a surgeon's assistant who used the mixed reality headset to carry out an inventory
  • The device is not yet available in mainland France
