After Netflix, Amazon adds advertisements to Prime Video

Netflix attracted the wrath of the whole world when it presented its “essential with advertising” package. It was the first time that the streaming platform added cuts between its programs. Since then, other platforms have decided to do the same, including Prime Video.

The Amazon platform announced to the Wall Street Journal that there should be between two and three minutes of advertising on the platform every hour. The leaders ofPrime Videoare intended to be reassuring, it is much less than on traditional television and competing streaming platforms.

Advertisements or an additional cost

This news obviously does not please the public, especially when we know that advertisements should be placed before and after a program, but also during, with real advertising breaks, worthy of linear television. The platform defends itself, explaining that it will always be possible to watch Prime Video without interruption (by paying an extra few euros per month).

The brand announces that this measure should allow Prime Video to produce better quality content, with an increase in its budget dedicated to the production of original content. Amazon Prime Video therefore joins Netflix, but also Disney+ in the list of streaming platforms incorporating advertising into their products.

Apple TV+, the last bastion

Apple TV+ should therefore become within a few weeksthe only general public platformnot to offer advertising breaks to its subscribers. This detachment could quickly become the hallmark of Apple TV+, which is already developing an image of quality service and excellence.

It will be interesting to monitor Prime Video's numbers in the coming weeks to see if this addition of advertising has any effect on the platform's subscriber numbers. Netflix, when these cuts were added, lost thousands of customers.
