Although it's still only January, many Apple fans are already interested in what's new in the next iPhones. But unfortunately, when it comes to software, it is possible that the firm will offer a less grandiose update than usual for its iOS operating system. In any case, this is what is indicated by the latest newsletter from Mark Gurman, the Bloomberg journalist.
This source, generally very well informed, explains thatiOS 17would have fewer major changes compared to what was planned. And this would also be valid for the next version of macOS. But why? In essence, this year, Apple would focus on the release of its first virtual reality and augmented reality headset. Initially planned for 2022, the product would only be released this year.
Gurman indicates that Apple's headset should be presented this spring, before the WWDC 2023 conference in June. In addition to developing the hardware, the firm is also working on a brand new operating system for augmented reality and virtual reality. This system would be called xrOS. And if Apple risks abandoning iOS 17 and the new version of macOS a little, it would be because the firm is focusing on this new platform. In addition, Apple also had to resolve some problems with iOS 16. As a reminder, iOS 17 should be presented at the WWDC conference and then released this fall.
In any case, this rumor underlines the importance of its futureaugmented reality headsetand virtual reality for Apple.
Hardware would not be affected
The good news is that in terms of hardware, the next iPhones should still be impressive. According to Gurman, Apple is expected to offer the Dynamic Island feature on all models of the iPhone 15 series (and not just the Pro models). On the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the firm would replace the stainless steel frame with titanium. Otherwise, Apple would replace its Lightning port with USB-C this year.
As for the processor, TSMC has already started mass production of chips engraved in 3 nm. And normally, Apple should benefit from this new technology from its supplier. This will allow the firm to offer more efficient, but also more energy efficient, iPhone chips.
