In the third quarter of 2020, Apple spent $1.5 million on lobbying

The US Senate has shared a document in which the amount spent by Apple on lobbying is mentioned. In the third quarter of the current year, the company spent more than $1.56 million in this rather special area. While this may seem enormous, this same amount was larger at the same time last year, to the point that it was down by around $200,000 compared to the third quarter of 2019.

Less than Facebook and Amazon

During the first half of 2020, Apple spent approximately $7.4 million on lobbying, which roughly corresponds to the entire budget invested by the company in the field during 2019. Over this period, the amounts are less impressive than those of Facebook and Apple – which rise to $4.9 million and $4.41 million respectively.

According to the documents, Apple led a team of seven lobbies responsible for influencing certain policy issues related to the United States Senate, the House of Representatives, the Patent and Trademark Office, the Department of Defense, Homeland Security, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), the Department of the Treasury, Health and Human Services, the United States Trade Representative, the Department of State, the Office of Management and Budget, the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Executive Office of the President.

In addition to these lobbyist groups, Tim Cook — president of Apple, speaks quite regularlywith US President Donald Trump and other members of the government. He is one of the rare bosses of a company from the technology sector to communicate so much with the politician.

As for the themes targeted by lobbying, Apple focused on the global health crisis, the environment, market access, consumer fraud, mobile payment and the regulation of medical applications.
