With iOS 17.2 the legendary iPhone ringtone could disappear

iPhones are very identifiable smartphones. This is one of Apple's great strengths. Over the years, the Apple brand has added details to its phones, ways to spot them at first glance, or at the first sound. One of these trademarks is the characteristic “ding” of notifications on iPhone.

No other phone offers this ringtone, and Apple ensures in the iPhone settings that everyone makes the same sound. However, this standardization has been questioned by users themselves for several years. If at first Apple remained very firm on the subject, the Cupertino company ended up putting water in its wine and accepted, in small steps,to personalize the user experience.

One of the first major changes in this direction was the arrival of Widgets with iOS 14. Since then, many features have arrived, always with the aim of facilitating the personalization of the device. With the release of the iOS 17.2 beta, testers expected to discover another customization feature.

The legendary ringtone is on the skeleton

But it was a shock when they discovered that the legendary ringtone of the iPhone was being called into question. Apple has always offered users the ability to change the sound on their phone based on the type of notification. But if the latter does not touch the settings of his phone,he will hear the famous “tri-tone”.

With the arrival of iOS 17 in September this “tri-volume” had already been replaced by a softer “rebound” solution. This new ringtone still works as the default on millions of iPhones today. With the arrival of iOS 17.2, users will (finally) have control over their default ringtone. The latter can be modified in the iPhone settings, in the “ringtone and vibrations” subsection.
