- Mozilla Firefox has just released version 115
- This is the latest compatible with macOS Mojave, Sierra and High Sierra
- Alternatives exist, notably with Safari
Mozilla Firefox 115 has just been released, with its share of new features for compatible computers. But we also learned that this version is the last one that can be installed on several operating systems, which will therefore be left behind with subsequent versions. These are the following platforms:
- Windows 7
- Windows 8
- macOS 10.12 (Sierra)
- macOS 10.13 (High Sierra)
- macOS 10.14 (Mojave)
If you need to install Mozilla Firefox 116, the release date of which is still unknown, you will need to invest in a PC or a Mac eligible for a more recent version. We are talking here about macOS 10.15 (Catalina) at least. Released in September 2018, this edition is notably available on MacBooks released in early 2015, on MacBook Airs from mid-2012 and on MacBook Pros from mid-2012 as well.
Mozilla Firefox, better than Safari?
Despite everything, even today, many users continue to swear by Safari on Mac. And for good reason: Apple sells its proprietary solution as the fastest, which seems to be confirmed according to numerous tests. This can be explained in particular by perfect integration with in-house chips, such as the M2 ofFifteen-inch MacBook Airrecently revealed.
However, some advantages are unavailable on Safari, but indeed present on its open source alternative. We think, for example, of the screenshot tool integrated into the browser, or even the blocking of cryptocurrency mining scripts.
Changes coming to iOS soon
Before long, it is also rumored that Apple could allow third-party browser publishers to do without WebKit, its rendering engine required to be accepted on the App Store. This could then offer more leeway to Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, to name just a few.
According to a recentstudy, the Mountain View platform remains the most popular today, all operating systems combined. That of Cupertino is just behind, followed closely by Microsoft Edge, now delivered with an assistant based on ChatGPT, completely free.
