Benchmarks: first comparisons for the M1 chip graphics card

Last week, Apple took advantage of its Keynoteto revealits new M1 chip which will now be integrated into its Macs. The Cupertino company therefore chooses to distance itself a little further from Intel and regain control of the hardware.

Results to put into perspective

Little by little, we know a little more about the performance of the SoC. Benchmarks were thus carried out to compare its graphic rendering with other players on the market. To do this, the GFXBench 5.0 tool was used as well as Apple's Metal API. We can see that the M1 outperforms the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and the AMD Radeon RX 560 quite well.

It should also be noted that these graphics cards are two fairly old models which are between three and four years old and this result must therefore be put into perspective. However, this remains a good performance to the extent that this rendering is obtained only via the SoC and not thanks to a dedicated graphics card.

Thus, the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro which still runs an Intel processor also has a dedicated AMD Radeon Pro 5300M graphics card which is used for heavy graphics tasks. Inthe comparisonbetween the latter and the M1 chip, the fight is much tougher and we notice that the two are almost at the same level of performance. Clearly, the Apple M1 chip continues to surprise.
