WithiOS 14.5 update for everyone, Apple is introducing a new feature on iPhones that helps prevent advertisers from tracking us: ATT, or cross-application tracking. Until now, publishers had the possibility of knowing our habits even after we had left their apps. A very effective solution to then better target potentialadvertisements, used by thousands of developers around the globe for their acquisition strategy.
Despite the criticism andcircumvention attemptsHowever, Cupertino did not give in to this option and did indeed end up deploying it. Ina recent interview with theWall Street Journal, the CTO of the firm Craig Federighi thus recalls the motivations of his company which are to provide a possibility of “meaningful choice” to its customers. In short, the manager once again underlines the importance ofconsentalready highlighted during the promotion of ATT.
A first major technical problem
To find out what cross-app tracking really is, you can refer to this new video shared recently by Apple on its YouTube channel. We quickly understand what it is, and how to use it to protect yourprivate life:
However, some Internet users who were able to install the latest version of iOS report that the setting that allows you to launch ATT in the Settings app is unavailable. Concretely, for them, it is like thisgrayed outmaking any manipulation impossible. Are you experiencing the same problem on your iPhone? According to9to5Mac, it could be a bug linked to the personalization of campaigns which can also be found in the menuConfidentiality. But nothing is less certain for the moment.
Difficult to remedy at present
If you are currently facing this rather annoying technical problem, especially since the ATT was originally supposed to be deployed last year but has since been postponed, know that there is unfortunately no official solution. At least for now.
Most of the time, however, we know that when this type of incident reaches Apple's ears apatchis then quickly sent to the smartphones that are victims. We can therefore bet that Apple's technicians are already hard at work to do this.
