In the near future, Apple could allow us to significantly improve our iPhone without this implying purchasing a new model. In any case, this is what a new patent just filed by the company with the USPTO* leads us to believe. In this document, we discover that users could thusadd a touch screen, a battery, camera lenses or even different types of sensorsto their device.
More precisely, the diagrams presented by Apple evoke aremovable back shell. Its design is therefore reminiscent of certain Android mobiles, which in the past allowed us to change the battery quickly in the event of a problem. But here, Cupertino offers to replace the rear panel at will with other modules, incorporating the components mentioned above. It would then be enough to clip everything at the back to close the chassis. Clever.
A simple improvement to MagSafe?
Those familiar with the Apple firm are probably aware that this concept is undoubtedly reminiscent of that of MagSafe, already present on the back of our high-end iPhonesToday. The technology thus makes it possible to add, for example, an external battery or a card holder to your mobile, simply by means of a magnet installed on the back of the latter.
Apple is not at its first attempt in any case, since other patents evoking a mobile phonemodularhave already been seen at the company in the past. Despite everything, let us point out that this type of value proposition will never really convince the general public. Google's “Ara project” and the Blocks connected watch, which also allowed the hardware of its devices to be personalized, will have been quickly abandoned after making the headlines.

The blood glucose meter on iPhone too!
Coming back to Apple's patent, note that it expressly mentions the possibility of also integrating a glucose sensor on the iPhone, while this technology is supposedalso arriving shortly on Apple Watch. This type of solution could be used at home by caregivers who suffer from diabetes mellitus.
- Apple imagined a modular mobile, where we could replace the back cover to add functionality
- In this way, we could add a touch screen or a blood glucose meter to the device
- For the moment it is only a patent which demonstrates it
