Generative artificial intelligence was popularized among the general public thanks to the arrival of OpenAI's chatbot, ChatGPT, with the ambition for AI players to subsequently create general AI. However, we are far from that, and now some are experimenting with offering generative AI in other formats.
Beyond chatbots, some have attempted to launch physical devices that use AI, but without success. It didn't take, and devices like the Rabbit R1 suffered more derision than anything else. Google and Samsung have for their part offered some interesting integrations, with Gemini and Galaxy AI, but Appleshould do even better with Apple Intelligence.
Seeing that market players lacked creativity in terms of new products that use generative AI, the former technical director of Snapchat, Vu Tran, decided to innovate. Afterthe fictitious social network that simulates fake Likes, here is Butterflies, a new social network where humans and fake AI profiles coexist.
Butterflies, matrix before its time?
The App Store is now entitled to a new, somewhat special social network! It's Butterflies, an entertainment platform that looks just like Meta's Instagram. The change here is that the app offers users to create “Butterflies”. It is aboutAI profiles that can interact with humans, as well as other AI profiles. The difference with matrix is that here, the robots don't want humans! They each have their own unique story, opinions, and (mock) emotions.
There are personalized AI chatbots on Meta and Snapchat, but these are substance-free according to Vu Tran. In Butterflies, AI profiles are certainly created by users, but they are then configured to take off and become an independent profile in their own right within the platform.
Initial positive feedback
According to Vu Tran, the first user feedback is conclusive. He recounts several use cases, including that of two friends who created their own AI clones, in order to see how they would evolve in the future.
