Apple would like to abandon its partnership with Sony, within the framework of which the Japanese manufacturer is responsible for designing the very famous EXMOR sensor for iPhones. Instead, the American firm would likebet on Samsung lenses, whose photophones are also of good quality. The information is obviously not official, because Cupertino does not reveal anything about this type of secret projects, most of the time.
According to the rumors behind this news, it is from2026that the new high-end iPhones will have a Samsung photo sensor on the back. However, we do not know more about its exact technical sheet, for the moment. On the other hand, indications suggest that the hardware in question would offer users a CMOS definition of forty-eight megapixels.
When will these new mobiles be released?
Four potential Apple mobiles are expected in September 2026. These are theiPhone 18, iPhone 18 Plus, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Provided, of course, that the manufacturer decides to keep this possible nomenclature.
By then, we could also see a major change for the photo sensor installed on the front of these cell phones. Indeed, instead of theDynamic Islandcurrent, we would then be entitled to a hallmark recalling the design of certain devices from Samsung or fromXiaomi. Others even mention a sensor under the screen, which remains to be proven.
Samsung, a partner of choice for iPhones
If Samsung is indeed confirmed at the helm of the new premium iPhone photo sensors, it will not be the first time that the Korean company has worked on this range. And for good reason: for many years now, its panels, together with those of LG Display and BOE Electronics, have sat on the front of iOS mobiles. With the successful results that we know from them: very wide contrasts, support for millions of colors and peak brightness.
- The Sony EXMOR sensor in high-end iPhones could disappear in future generations
- Samsung would take care of replacing it with hardware of its own design
- This is not certain at the moment
