After the talking cameras in Toulouse, the paraphernalia of the forces of law and order and justice is expanding with a new tool.Tested on several traffic lanes for several weeks, the software from the Australian startupAcusensusis capable of detecting illegal smartphone use in the car. But then, how does it work?
The principle is simple: municipalities must installradarsspecial services on the most risky sections. Then, when they are turned on, a program scans live the images captured by the device. By analyzing the position of the hands of people seated at the front of the vehicle, it is then able to signal risky behavior.
What future for this technology?
For the moment, Acusensus has only officiated in two strategic locations. And this operation bore fruit: by filming more than 8 million cars,1 in 85 peoplewas ultimately fined. A significant figure, which confirms the interest of the local government in deploying this method on a larger scale.
Coming soon, it's like this45 cameraswho will monitor Australian roads. An initiative that costs… The equivalent of around 54 million euros. If the amount collected by the authorities following the checks makes it possible to compensate for this figure, it is however for road safety reasons that the State of New South Wales ensures that it is so involved in the project.
Fortunately, if you still want to communicate while driving, there are alternatives that are just as connected as your phone. Dashboards, in particular, are becoming more and more efficient, such as the 17″ screen of Teslas.Android Auto etCarPlay, among others, are OSes dedicated to cars which are becoming more and more popular.
