Spotify, the world leader in music streaming, is launching into video clips. This new, currently in beta, has just been announced by the company in a press release on its website. Music videos on Spotify will be reserved for Premium subscribers, and only in the following countries: United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia and Kenya.
Clips will not be available for all music in Spotify's catalog. But the limited catalog, used as part of this beta, will still include clips from artists like Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Ice Spice, and local celebrities. Users with access to this new feature in beta will see a new button that allows you to switch from the audio version to the video clip version, on supported titles.

And the clips can be viewed on iOS, Android, computer, and on television. In addition, on mobile, it will be possible to switch to a full-screen display of video clips, just by orienting the smartphone in landscape mode.
A new way to connect with artists
At the moment it is unknown when the clips will be available in other countries. But, in any case, with this novelty, Spotify becomes a competitor to YouTube, which is currently the main destination for Internet users to watch this type of content. Otherwise, for Spotify, clips are a new way for its users to connect with their favorite artists.
“Time and time again, in my own experience and countless others, music videos play a key role in hooking you in: taking you from listener to fan.”, says Charlie Hellman, vice president and head of music products at Spotify.“They are an important part of many artists’ toolkits, and it’s natural for them to be present in the same place where more than half a billion people choose to listen to music.”
In addition to making Spotify more competitive, the arrival of clips could also encourage more users to switch to a premium account. According to the latest official figures, Spotify now has a total of 602 million users worldwide, including 236 million premium subscribers.
