When an iPhone has just been manufactured, since it is packaged in plastic, it is no longer opened until it is in the hands of its first owner. There is, however, a small drawback to this, which is thatin the meantime,it is likely that Apple has rolled out one or more new versions of iOS.It is therefore not uncommon for new iPhones sold in stores to be equipped with the latest version of Apple firmware.
In order to solve this “problem”, which is not really a problem, Apple has found a solution. Many customers do not particularly attach importance to this, as an adoption report recently showed. According to the latter, only23% of iPhones have iOS 17 installedless than a month after its release.
But we know the importance Apple places on updates. The Apple firm strongly advises its users to install the new versions of its OS that it deploys over time, without delay. In order to no longer sell new iPhones without the latest iOS version, Apple will introduce an almost magical tool in its Stores, able to upgrade devices without unboxing them. Thanks to this, all iPhones and Macs sold in stores
We presented it to you for the first time in October 2023, thanks to arevelation ofMark Gurman. At that time, he told us that the tool in question came in the form of a tablet, on which we place the sealed box containing the new iPhone (or other) to be updated. The Apple informant working for Bloomberg today provides us with more details regarding this device, including a release date and a name.
Presto is coming to the Apple store next month!
The technology is called “Presto” and should be deployed in April in American Apple Stores. By this summer, all of Uncle Sam's apple stores should be able to benefit from it, but we don't know when the rest of the world will be entitled to it. While he described the system as a tablet, or notebook, here is Mark Gurman's new description:
The system looks a bit like a metal shoe rack. It can use MagSafe and other wireless technologies to power the iPhone without ever opening the package. He downloads and installs new software, then turns off the phone.
Speaking of updates, iOS 18 could be revealed in a few weeks. To see the possible new features that the version will offer, it's here.
