Instagram has just changed a key feature of its “publishing” section. In fact, the social network, owned by Mark Zuckerberg's Meta group, has just changed the number of photos that a user can post. Until now, a “carousel” could not contain more than 10 photos. From now on, it is possible to put twice as many on the social network, Meta having increased the limit to 20 photos per post.
As a reminder, carousels are already a novelty in themselves when we look at historyd’Instagram. For years, the social network centered around photos (at least initially) did not allow more than one photo to be published per post. The first carousels appeared in 2017, but not without attracting attention.
This decision by Instagram comes just a few weeks after the change in policy of TikTok, the big Chinese rival. On the latter, it is now possible to post 35 photos or videos in one go. By doubling the number of content available on a single publication, Instagram wanted to overshadowthe novelty of TikTok.
Who can use this new feature?
In its announcement message, the Meta group explains that all users have access to this new feature, starting today. In reality, the deployment is done in several stages and some people do not yet have access to this functionality. They should be able to post 20 photos at once within a few days, while the application is updated on all devices around the world.
As a reminder, Instagram is one of the most popular social networks in the world, with more than 500 million accounts active every day. It remains slightly ahead of TikTok, but the growth of both companies could change these positions quickly.
