In a paid article to which we were nevertheless able to have access, the press agencyBloombergexpects the arrival of at least three new AirPods models. First of all, Mark Gurman, journalist specializing in the Apple firm, assumes that Apple will unveil the second generation of the AirPods Max wireless and Bluetooth headset by 2024. The exact release date is not specified, however, but this is not surprising because the manufacturer does not communicate this kind of information upstream. Additionally, the precise marketing schedule generally does not leak this early.
With this, Gurman is banking on a potential third generation of AirPods Pro for 2025. The classic model, for its part, would be renewed next year. We do not yet know the details of the technical sheet, but the sound quality would notably be revised upwards.
Today, AirPods are the best-selling wireless headphones in the world – across all brands. Other big names in tech also offer very popular alternatives, such as Samsung's Galaxy Buds or Google's Pixel Buds.
Some models would be discontinued
To go further, Gurman also believes that Apple could simply abandon the marketing of second-generation AirPods and third-generation AirPods. It was during the release of the fourth generation that the old models would be removed from the Apple Store shelves. However, today, the second generation AirPods are still available in stores – while the AirPods 3 succeeded them.
This could, however, be explained in a relatively simple way. Indeed, Mark Gurman thinks that the AirPods 4 will actually be released in two different versions. The design would change compared to that of the AirPods 3, although the latter already have a significantly different appearance from their predecessors. You guessed it: one version of the AirPods 4 would be more expensive, with even active noise reduction on the menu, while the second would be the most affordable. In this case, there is no longer any need to continue to offer the previous collection in store, for small budgets.
What's new for AirPods Max 2?
Regardingthe second generation AirPods Max, we should enjoy new colors above all. This rumor is not without echoing previous clues, published several months in advance to the same effect by other sources.
The AirPods Max 2 will undoubtedly also be rechargeable thanks to a USB-C socket. This also appeared on Apple mobiles, with the iPhone 15 andthe iPhone 15 Pro.
