Sources reporting a problem with Universal Control or Handoff are increasing after updating to iPadOS 16.4 and macOS Ventura 13.3just a few days ago. More precisely, these include MacBook Pros with M1 Pro chip and2022 iPad Airswho are affected. These devices are therefore relatively recent. The number of victims has not yet been precisely recorded.
It is unclear how to resolve the incident, which renders the tools in question simply unusable, as the solutions identified by some users apparently do not work for everyone. Please note, however, that if the problem also occurs for you, you can try restarting the affected Mac or iPad. This may be sufficient in certain cases, after remembering to close all windows before leaving the session.
A network question?
From other sources, it appears that the iCloud connection may be the culprit. This online storage service provides a unique identifier to each Apple user, whether on iPad or Mac. By logging out and restarting the operating system, before finally logging back in, it is sometimes possible to work around the bug. But again, this is not always enough to resolve it.
Apple has not yet reacted, it seems. However, it is not uncommon to see the firm keep informed of this type of problem internally before finally publishing a patch, but this can take several days or even several weeks depending on the case and the scope of the flaw.
New features currently being tested
Good to know, however: iPadOS 16.5 and macOS 13.4 are currently in development at Apple anda public betais already available for the most experienced editors. However, it is not yet certain that this version will be able to resolve the Universal Command and Handoff bugs, but other editions should follow one another until the final version to be clear. Only install on dedicated products, as always.
