Like the AirPods Max, the Apple Vision Pro has its own cover

A patent spotted in Hong Kong and filed by the Apple firm clearly shows us the design imagined by Apple for the protective cover of its mixed reality headset. According to Mark Gurman, the Vision Prois expected in February in the United States, where it could sell nearly five hundred thousand copies in less than a year. We do not know the price or the release schedule for the French market, for the moment. It is also not specified whether a financing plan will be offered to the first buyers, who will have to pay $3,499 to afford the mount.

In other official documents spotted by our colleagues fromPatently Apple, we see that the manufacturer has also registered the design of thebatteryof Vision Pro. This allows it to last untiltwo hourslit in a row, and is connected to it thanks to what is similar to proprietary connectivity. The content of the latter is not known at this time. As with a camera or a drone, however, it would be enough to purchase several batteries to benefit from extended autonomy, even if you may have to change the battery every sixty minutes.

What will the cover be used for?

The cover that we discover in this patent seems above all dedicated to protecting the Vision Pro screen. As a reminder, the latter is apparently designed by the Japanese firm Sony and offers users a display4K, with a panel of this definition for each eye. The system is the most expensive embedded in the mixed reality headset, before its duo of in-house processors, including the R1 specifically dedicated to augmented reality apps.

We do not yet know whether the cover, which is made of fabric, will be supplied automatically in the Vision Pro box or not. However, we can bet that if this is not the case, the price risks being steep and could easily exceed one hundred euros. We thus remember the littlechiffonin microfiber, offered by Apple to clean its Macs and iPhones but at the price of twenty-five euros per unit…

Thousands of patents in the loop

This patent is, moreover, far from being the only one filed by Apple to protect the design of its Vision Pro. During the last Worldwide Developer Conference, the manufacturer specified that it had obtained the rights to no less thanfive thousand documentsof its kind, guaranteeing its intellectual property against potential competitors.

  • Apple patent shows protective cover for the Vision Pro
  • The fabric accessory could be very expensive, if purchased separately
  • Mixed reality headset comes out in February in the US, says Mark Gurman
