The Youtuber from the iAppleBytes YouTube channel is used to comparing different versions of iOS. Its videos allow you to show how a new, recently released version behaves, both in terms of performance and energy savings.
And the channel's latest publication focused on thebrand new iOS 14 beta 1. On iPhone SE (2020), 6s, 7, 8 and
Here are the results:
Generally speaking, we do not seealmost no difference between the two OS. We could note some improvements in terms of responsiveness and response to commands on iOS 14, on all iPhone models tested. On the other hand, iOS 14 sometimes seems slower for certain tasks, in particular for calling on Siri, which no longer has a dedicated screen in this version, but which can occur anywhere in iOS. The results of a Siri request are also displayed superimposed at the top of the screen.
Still, unlike previous major iOS updates, which sometimes focused on improving overall system performance, for iOS 14, this does not seem to be the case.
As seen here, this new version arrives with a good batch of new features, many of which focus on ergonomic improvements or additions to apps. Improving overall responsiveness seems not to have been the priority for developers at Apple this time. Note however that, on the one hand, iOS 13 is already very responsive in my opinion, even on fairly old iPhones (iPhone 6s for example), and on the other hand, we will have to see other comparisons to give more weight to this conclusion.
Notice to those who have already installed iOS 14, what do you think in terms of system responsiveness? Better or worse than iOS 13.5.1?
