Help NASA count shooting stars with an iPhone and iPad app

Did you know?40 tons
celestial objects hit the Earth every day
! But very little
arrive on the surface of our planet (meteorites), most of which are
consumed in the upper atmosphere producing magnificentstars
spinning
or fireballs for larger pieces.
TheNASAattempts to identify them and suggestsTHE
help
via a
free app here for iPhone, iPod touch or iPad
.
This is how it works:

Lie on your back on a nice clear night (and not too cold) and
launch the applicationMeteor Counter.

The use isextremely simple: every time you see
a shooting star, tap the screen in the area that corresponds to the intensity of the
luminous phenomenon: +4 when barely visible, -2 when very bright. The camera
is not used, just your eyes.

The softwarerecords the number of eventsand for
each object reportedtime, intensity and your location.
You can also record a voice commentary. Everything is sent to the
NASA for processing. As you observe your status
will evolve from beginner to expert (there, the analysts will take you more closely
serious ! )

The goal is, for example, discovery of new star showers
spinning
or even the mapping of meteoroids around the orbit
land.
The application also provides access to information on these events as well as a
shooting star shower calendarknown.
