Concept: the iPod classic returns with AirPods Max 2

The last iPod, with a touchscreen, was released in 2019. But although rumors about the next version are already starting to be published, some are getting impatient. Designer Parker Ortolani, specialist on the subject at9to5Macetto whom we already owe renders of watchOS 8, thus imagined what the next edition of the device could look like. There we find an improved model of the very first iPod, now callediPod classicby the press.

This time, however, the software has been revised upwards to take advantage of certain advantages of iOS 14, such as the Apple News+ application orthe best quality of audio files announced last week. Everything is powered by an Apple S6 processor (the same as in the Apple Watch Series 6), and has a three-inch Retina screen with thousand nits brightness. Finally, the storage reaches 512 GB, which would be a first in this range.

Connectivity

The graphic designer also details how it would be easier to pair this iPod to his iPhone in a few seconds, so as to configure it automatically the first time when connecting to it. The possibility of streaming content via Bluetooth and AirPlay 3 is also mentioned, which has not yet seen the light of day either.

But the most likely advantage of this player seems above all to be its ability to connect to AirPods Max, also available here in an additional version. Because remember that for the moment, the headset that was released last year only has a Lightning jack. However, even if it is possible to connect a jack port adapter to it, the latter will not be compatible with Lossless Audio due to the conversion from digital to analog.

To remedy this, Ortolani created the AirPods Max 2 whose selling price would start at $549, without changing the current price (i.e. 629 euros in France). Near the left speaker, a 3.5 mm jack is integrated, capable of playing Lossless Audio files in 24-bit and 48 KHz.
