Are leather iPhone cases a thing of the past?

Analyst DuanRui, an Apple specialist, assures that the Apple brand could no longer use leather in its protective iPhone cases. The Cupertino company would like to do without animal leather and only use vegan solutions, more respectful of animal welfare.

For the moment this information has not been confirmed by the Cupertino company and the latter has not shown any sign of transition or particular desire to stop the use of real leather. The apple brand now offers 16 different cases with animal leather foriPhone 14and it could very well be the same with the next iPhone 15s.

A simple change on the iPhone?

Apple not only offers leather cases on the iPhone, the Apple brand also uses leather for MagSafe external batteries, but also protections for AirTags and even the Apple Pencil. iPads also had the right to leather shells.

Logic would dictate that Apple would simply change its iPhone 15 cases by only offering vegan leather parts. The changes would thus be gradual at Apple and the Cupertino company could take several years.

Simple greenwashing ?

Apple has taken several actions in recent years to reduce its carbon footprint. The apple brand has made several commitments, particularly to achievecarbon neutrality by 2030. The share of recycled products used in the design of Apple's phones, tablets and computers is constantly increasing.

While efforts are – undeniably – increasing on the Cupertino side, the Apple brand continues to produce several different smartphone models per year. Apple also releases iPads every six months, pushing consumers toward overuse of electronic devices. The production of these products, and in particular the use of rare earths, is a source of massive pollution.
