Corruption: while Tim Cook is in China, 5 App Store employees are fired there

The Apple boss is currently continuing his trip to the Middle Kingdom. We had already mentionedthe start of his journey a few days ago. He notably visited an Apple Store, a school, and a tea plantation.

Tim Cook then continued his adventure in China by visiting the factory “Luxshare Precision". It is she who is responsible for manufacturing Apple's most advanced devices. More precisely,Luxshare Precisionis assembling the new carbon-neutral Apple Watch line, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

While the CEO appears publicly in places strategically interesting for Apple in China, the mediaThe informationhas just made public the content of an internal report from the firm. The latter reveals that5 Chinese App Store employees were fired. It is good to note that we are talking here about the online application store (App Store), and not a physical store (Apple Store).

They offer free meals and outings to bribe them

This case details several workers who received benefits from developers and consultants. The latter would have in fact approached certain employees of the App Store in order to offer them gifts. It is important to note that Apple strictly prohibits its employees from meeting with developers, except in exceptional circumstances. And for good reason, they hold the reins of a platform which has single-handedly generated1100 billion dollars in 2022.

It is therefore understandable that Apple fears that agreements between its workers and developers operating on its platform are being made behind its back. And of course there was no shortage of it. The 5 employees were in fact offered restaurants and nightclubs. In return, they were responsible for giving more visibility to the applications concerned. Unfortunately, this did not last long, as following an internal investigation,all were fired for inappropriate conduct.

We remember the dismissal ofthe young woman who denounced sexism at Apple. In his case, the dismissal seemed unfair, but in the case of the 5 Chinese employees, it seemed entirely justified.
