For over a year now, Apple and Epic Games have been engaged ina major legal confrontationin the United States. While Apple seems to have won its case last fall, Epic Games does not see it that way. The company has in fact decided to appeal this decision and we have just learned that it will not be alone in this process. Thus, Microsoft and 35 American state attorneys general enter the battle.
On the Microsoft side, we argue that this “Broad ruling in Apple's favor could leave little room for a limiting principle to prevent Apple from leveraging its control of iOS to squeeze out competition in countless adjacent markets».
State attorneys general believe that “Apple's conduct has harmed and continues to harm mobile app developers and millions of citizens. Meanwhile, Apple continues to monopolize app distribution and in-app payment solutions for iPhones, stifling competition and amassing supra-competitive profits in the smartphone industry, which represents nearly a thousand billion dollars per year.»
It is still far too early to know what will happen to this file. However, the involvement of the American states and Microsoft in this procedure is not very good news for the Cupertino company.
