Arriving with the iPhone 14 Pro, the “Dynamic Island” functionality is Apple’s small revolution for this new generation of phones. Present only on the two high-end models, the new “pill” can be transformed into an elegant black display giving the impression that the screen is not drilled.
If this little marvel of prowess combines the software and hardware functionalities of the iPhone so well, it is because Apple has control over these points. Apple controls the software, which it produces itself, as well as the physics, always designed in Cupertino.
Developers are already offering alternatives under Android
For Apple's competitors, Apple's double hat is a major difficulty. They all have to adapt to an OS that is not theirs (Android) although more and more advanced overlays exist. For several days, third-party developers have been trying to copy Apple's new functionality to introduce it on Android phones with a… questionable result.
As noted by our colleagues fromJournal du Geek, several applications have arrived on the Play Store since Apple's keynote on September 7. In the list we can notably cite dynamicSpot, one of the first releases on the Google application store. Quite simple, it nevertheless seems to appeal, having exceeded 5000 downloads.
Dynamic Island is a discovery from Apple and in its demonstration on September 7, Tim Cook's teams left the door open for third-party developers. They will be able to use this new interface system to display information on the user's phone.
Dynamic Island: Apple's little extra is expensive
You can find the list of applications that are already compatible with the “Dynamic Island”in this article. Present only on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, the functionality is nevertheless quite expensive. Apple phones have suffered a considerable price increase this year in Europe, particularly in France.
For the Pro model you will have to pay €1,329. You will have to go up to €1479 for the Pro Max. The two phones are here in their 128 GB versions. The version with 256 GB of storage is sold at €1,459 for the iPhone 14 Pro and €1,609 for the Pro Max. With such storage, the phone unlocks 4k ProRes video shooting, unavailable on devices with minimum storage data.
