Apple prepares to fight the FBI
before the court of justice on March 22, regarding the case of
Unlocking San Bernardino Killer's iPhone 5c and Its Implications
regarding the security of iPhone users' data.
In addition to large tech companies like Facebook, Microsoft, and Google which
ontofficially gave their supportto the cause of Apple,
many other organizations and companies have just joined the ranks
of defenseby submitting an "amicus brief" to the court of
justice.
An "amicus brief" allows people or companies not involved
directly in the case to submit information and documents to the court
which will be used in the argument. In the present case, the amicus brief is
all in favor of Apple and reflect Silicon Valley's position on
this matter.
16 new companiescame together to submit this
"amicus brief" before the court of justice, namely Airbnb, Atlassian,
Automattic, Cloudflare, eBay, GitHub, Kickstarter, LinkedIn, Mapbox, Meetup,
Reddit, Square, Squarespace, Twilio, Twitter et Wick.
Although Samsung says it supports Apple's position on protection
user data, the Korean manufacturerdidn't happen
committed like other companiesby filing a request with the
American court of law.
As a reminder, the FBI made a request to Apple to
force the writing of software capable of unlocking the iPhone
by Fayed Farouk (the San Bernardino killer) and implicitly any
another iPhone, which Apple refuses. The Apple firm rightly considers
thatas a security threatdata from millions
of iPhone users, especially if this software fell between
bad hands. Furthermore, it would create a precedent that could be used by others
governments around the world.
