What are the expected differences between the new iPhones and previous ones?

We are now only a stone's throw away from the release of the new iPhone 16 andiPhone 16 Pro. Obviously, like every year, the clues about future devices multiply as the date approaches, which would coincide with September 10. And among information of this kind, analyst Jeff Pu has just announced that the technical sheet of upcoming mobiles will ultimately not benot so differentfrom that of previous models. An assertion which also fits with those of many other sources, such as the Taiwanese researcher Ming-Chi Kuo or his American counterpart Mark Gurman.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro should all be compatible withApple Intelligence, a suite of features boosted by artificial intelligence and allowing them to seriously compete with Galaxy AI or Gemini Nano. However, the manufacturer is not revealing anything about the official technical characteristics for the moment, but a keynote could tell us more about this. If next month is the target for the presentation, we assume that in-store availability will arrive only a few days later. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max should then be removed from the shelves, where the iPhone 15 could still be offered for sale afterwards.

Performance of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro

Among the expected changes in the new iPhones, we assume in particular that a more powerful chip would be there. This would be the A18 Pro processor, apparently intended for the iPhone 16 Pro andiPhone 16 Pro Max. With maybe a motorThirty-two-core Neural Engine, this component would be the keystone of the most advanced options of Apple Intelligence, available on these models, but also on the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus.

The latter would nevertheless be limited in terms of raw power, with certainly perhaps the increase to eight gigabytes of RAM but a motherboard less fast than that of the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Improvements for photography

Regarding imagery, it is rumored that the5x optical zoomof iPhone 15 Pro Max, unavailable on iPhone 15 Pro, will return on both iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max this year. However, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would not be eligible.

On the other hand, the most affordable editions could finally be able to shoot“spatial” videoswith their back photo sensor, which is still impossible with their predecessors at the moment. We do not know if an update is planned, to also provide support for the functionality for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

A new design and larger screens

Still on the subject of shooting, also know that a newbouton Capturecould appear on the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, not far from thebouton Actioninstalled on the same slice. This new interface would offer the possibility of taking a photo very quickly, like with the shutter release on a reflex camera. But here too, the announcement remains to be confirmed. What's more, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would not benefit from this improvement.

Finally, note that larger screens are also in the works, according to rumor. So, where the iPhone 15 Pro benefits from a 6.1-inch diagonal, their successors would accommodate a 6.3-inch panel at the front. Compared to 6.9 inches for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, more than the 6.7 inches of the iPhone 15 Pro Max or the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

  • The iPhone 16s wouldn't be that different from their predecessors
  • The iPhone 16 Pro should, however, have a larger screen than the iPhone 15 Pro
  • These rumors could be confirmed on September 10 during a keynote
