The New York Times has decided to leave Apple News

TheNew York Timesis surely one of the most famous media in the world. Formerly confined to the American market, the daily now has a global audience thanks to its large number of digital subscribers. His decision to leave Apple News therefore does not go unnoticed and constitutes a small blow for the Cupertino company's service.

Apple prefers to put this announcement into perspective

The daily has chosen to abandon the application in order to direct readers towards its own web application and website. The company's chief operating officer, Meredith Kopit Levien, released an internal letter to explain the decision:

The heart of a healthy business model between The Times and the platforms is a direct way to return those readers to our environments, where we control the presentation of our stories, the relationships with our readers and the nature of our business rules... Our relationship with Apple News does not fit into this configuration.

The newspaper had already been cautious in the past by refusing to includeApple News+, a paid service which allows access to many titles (it is not yet available in France).

On Apple's side, we prefer to minimize this departure. This is the meaning of the comments made by a spokesperson for the apple brand: “The New York Times only offered Apple News a few articles per day. We are also committed to supporting quality journalism through proven advertising, subscription and commerce business models“, he pleads.

In any case, we will have to hope that this decision will not give ideas to other major media, which could ultimately worry Apple's application.

As a reminder, the latter has just welcomed a newvery welcome featurewhich allows you to find a text in the state where you left it when leaving the app. Apple News is still not available in France but could be available next year.
