Apple has already sold more than 2 billion iPhones

While Apple is in the process of launching its new iPhone 13 series, we learn that the Cupertino company has already exceeded 2 billion iPhones sold since the launch of the first model. This was not mentioned by the firm during its September keynote, however, this is what is indicated by analyst Horace Dediu, in a publication relayed by our colleagues at 9to5Mac.

“Just recently, the 2 billionth iPhone was sold. Unlike the 1 billionth, there was no announcement, no celebration”, we read in his publication. But why didn't Apple make an announcement at its last event?“That's partly because Apple stopped reporting unit shipments, but partly because it's not as interesting to talk about 2 billion as it is about 1 billion. There is desensitization when numbers get this big”, adds the analyst.

In any case, the iPhone still sells very well

Dediu reminds that the iPhonenow has more than a billion users, and that 26% of smartphone users worldwide use an iPhone (a share that would be 60% in the United States).

For its part, 9to5Mac comments that with its current offering, Apple has abandoned Steve Jobs-style simplicity. Indeed, when the latter returned to Apple, it decided to simplify the offer by offering fewer models.

Yet today, for the iPhone alone, Apple has 24 different models or versions, ranging from $400 in the US for the iPhone SE with 64GB of RAM, to $1,600 for aiPhone 13 Pro Maxwith 1TB of storage.

On the other hand, when it comes to features, Apple continues to adopt its founder's strategy: developing new features that users have not thought of or asked for, but which they will no longer be able to do without. .
