Disney+ becomes more expensive despite record results in the 2nd quarter

Disney+just announcedthat the price of its classic offer would increase from $7.99 per month to $10.99 per month in the United States, which could result in an increase from 8.99 euros to 11.99 euros in France. Either aincrease of more than 33% in the base price, if the change is confirmed by also being introduced in mainland France. At the moment, however, we do not yet know whether this will be the case or not.

Please note that at the same time, Disney+ has also chosen to launch aunique ad-funded package. It is offered for $7.99 per month in the United States, an amount equivalent to the basic subscription so far. And Mickey and his friends are not the only ones affected, since the Hulu alternative and sports on ESPN+ (accessible abroad) are also seeing their prices increase.

Very encouraging results

However, the Disney+ figures are looking good. Indeed, the service generated 26% more revenue if we compare the second quarter of 2022 to the second quarter of 2021, i.e.$21.5 millionapproximately compared to nearly 17 million last year. However, it seems that expenses are on the rise, since the app only has 187 million dollars in reserve compared to more than half a billion in summer 2021.

It must be said that original productions are becoming more and more numerous and have enough to overshadow the competing catalog of Apple TV+, with for example the cartoon for adults Solar Opposites, the Marvel titleI am Grootor the documentaryOlivia Rodrigo: driving home 2 u. Singer Taylor Swift also got her own feature film on Disney+.

Apple TV+ still less than five euros per month!

For its part, Apple TV+ is limited to 4.99 euros per month. So of coursethe list of titles available on the platformis much less extensive than that of Disney+, but we still find big names in the seventh art such asTom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Vera Farmiga or even David Attenborough, Harrison Ford and Will Smith. And recently we also learned thatEva Longoria joined the cast of La Pomme.
